OBJECTIVES
The postgraduate course Conceiving and Producing Monographic Solo Exhibitions aims to train curators who work in museums, artist´s estates, art centres, private art galleries and other agents of the art market on the specificities of the construction of solo exhibitions. Most of the curatorial studies are focused on collective exhibitions, in spite of the impact that solo exhibitions have on the construction of the public and critical representation of the artist’s work. The course will take, as case studies, examples of historical retrospective and anthological solo exhibitions. Catalogues and other publications will also be treated, as well as the impact on the art market. Besides the participation of the Professors from Belas-Artes, the collaboration of the curators from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, the Serralves Museum, Culturgest, Centro Cultural de Belém, National Museum of Contemporary Art and Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, will guarantee an effective link to curatorial practice. Part of the classes will be in these institutions, visiting the collections and meeting the staff. The participation of artists — who will share their experience of working with curators in the production of exhibitions — and gallerists will be of utmost significance in the training program.
