All classes are addressed in portuguese. Therefore, it is recommended an independent knowledge of portuguese language (at least B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
who can apply
Are accepted as candidates for the Mestrado in Artistic Anatomy:
- Holders of the licenciado degree or legal equivalent in the areas of Sculpture, Painting, Communication Design, Equipment Design, Medicine, Dentistry Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Health Sciences, Biology;
- Holders of foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this process in these or other related areas;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree in those areas or similar ones, which is recognized as meeting the objectives of a Licenciado degree by the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Fine Arts;
- Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Fine Arts as attesting the capacity to attend the study programme.
Required documents
The application is submitted through the Academic Services on-line application system. Alternatively, the application may be performed in person. The application process must be accompanied by the following documents:
- Copy of certificate of the academic degree or equivalent (present the original in case of admission);
- Academic, scientific or professional curriculum (with copies of the documents to which it refers);
- Letter of purpose / motivation to the frequency of the course;
- Copy of identification document (passport, UE citizen card, etc.);
- One colour photo (passport type);
- Declaration, under oath, that the candidate is not a Portuguese national, and is not covered by any of the conditions which, according to the International Student Statute, doesn’t confer him the status of International Student (only for students who are covered by the International Student Statute)
Legalization of foreign documents
If you have completed your degree/course abroad, and haven’t made any prior application for it’s registration, recognition or equivalence in Portugal, for the Mestrado application process it’s required the legalisation of your degree certificate under the Portuguese legislation. Authentic documents issued in a foreign country are considered legalized in Portugal as long as the signature of the public servent who issued it is recognized by a portuguese diplomatic or consular officer in that country and authenticated with the respective consular stamp. Similarly, if the country where the degree was obtained is a party of the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 (Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents), you can alternatively authenticate the certificate by the Hague Apostille Convention.
Certificates issued in member countries of the European Union do not require legalization.
If the documents are not in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish or Italian, they must be translated into one of these languages by a translator recognized by the Portuguese diplomatic representation in the country where the document was issued. Similarly, the following authorities can also carry out and certify translations: notaries; consulate in Portugal of the country where the document was issued and suitable translator; conservadores of any Conservatória; lawyers and solicitadores.
The application involves the payment of a non-refundable application fee.

The applications for admission in the academic year 2015/2016, must be performed during the periods below, in accordance with the candidate specific situation.
SPECIAL APPLICATION PERIOD FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In order to allow that international students can obtain in advance the result to their application, the Faculdade de Belas-Artes provides a specific and prior application period, exclusively for students in these situations. Are considered as international students, those who: do not have Portuguese nationality; are not a national from a Member State of the European Union; not being national from a Member State of the European Union, are not legally residing in Portugal until the 31st of August of the year in which intend to enroll in higher education for more than two years, continuously, and if are not family of foreign citizens that hold a resident permit for more than two years.

// Important note: In this international student phase, the applications will take place exclusively on-line. An application fee (non-refundable) of 30 EUR will be charged.
The admitted candidates must perform their enrollment and registration during the periods set out. At the time of registration and enrollment is mandatory the payment of 30% of the total annual tuition fee, along with the registration fee. In case of withdrawal of the course, duly formalized, the student is only relieved from paying the tution fees’ installments that have not expired. The payment made by the registration and enrollment is not refunded in case of withdrawal.
The issue by the Academic Services of the declaration of acceptance to the approved students in the application process, is subject to the payment of the above amounts (30% of the tuition fee and registration fee). Placement in the course is only valid for the registration and enrollment in the academic year concerned in the application.

How to apply
On-line application
The easiest and fastest way! Before you initiate your on-line application to the Mestrado please read carefully the instructions below. For questions regarding the submission of your application do not hesitate to contact the Faculty’s Academic Services
- To initiate your online application you must conduct a pre-registration in the CSS-Net website.
- Afterwards, you must select the desired course and fill in the requested personal data.
- All the documents required for the application process must be attached in digital format (pdf file).
- The online application will become valid only after payment of the application fee. For that purpose, and ATM payment reference is made available (only usable under the portuguese banking system). For other payment transfer solutions (namely VISA/Mastecard), please contact the Academic Services, through academicos@fba.ul.pt. If the payment is not made until the indicated deadline, the application will be canceled.
- The non-submission of the required documents, or the incorrect presentation (e.g., Illegible document, not legalized foreign document, etc.) will invalidate the application. The candidate will be informed of this fact by the CSS-Net platform or by e-mail .
After the ranking process, applicants will be informed by email of the final result of the application. In case of acceptance, it will be dependent on the presentation at the Academic Services of the original (or a legal copy) of the degree certificate, during the indicated period.

Tuition fees / ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-2016
The below tuition fees, set for the attendance of the academic year 2015-2016 in a regular full-time basis, are pending approval by the General Council of the Universidade de Lisboa.
Annual tution fee for international students
Frequency of the 1st academic year > 4000 EUR
Frequency of the 2nd academic year > 1200 EUR
Annual tuition fee for national and equivalent students (EU nationals; non EU students that legally reside in Portugal for more than two years)
1200 EUR
Tuition fees can be paid in installments, as set by the Faculdade de Belas-Artes Management Board.
With the payment of the first installment it’s also due the registration fee.
// Important Note: The above annual amount for the tuition fee is valid only for the frequency of the academic year 2015/2016, and may be subject to change in subsequent years. The tuition fees are set annually by the General Council of the Universidade de Lisboa by proposal of the Rector.
Evaluation criteria and selection
In the process of selection there’s an overall assessment of your application, with the weighing of the following criteria:
- Final rank of academic degree, classified from 1 to 5;
- Academic, scientific or technical curriculum, classified from 1 to 5;
- Profissional experience in the course area, classified from 1 to 5.
There’s also an application interview made by the Master’s Scientific Board. Finally, the candidates will be classified according to the score of the selection process.
VACANCIES
For international students
2 vacancies.
For national and equivalent students (EU nationals; non EU students that legally reside in Portugal for more than two years)
30 vacancies.
The opening of the Mestrado is conditional to the existence of, at least, a global total of 12 admitted and enrolled candidates.

Os estudantes que ingressem no ensino superior ao abrigo do Estatuto do Estudante Internacional (Decreto-Lei n.º 36/2014, de 10 de Março) mantêm a qualidade de estudante internacional até ao final do ciclo de estudos em que se inscreverem inicialmente ou para que transitem. Excetuam-se deste disposto os estudantes internacionais que adquiram a nacionalidade de um Estado membro da União Europeia, sendo que a cessação da aplicação do estatuto de estudante internacional em consequência da aquisição da nacionalidade de um Estado membro da UE produz efeitos no ano lectivo subsequente à data da aquisição da nacionalidade.
