passage de vie, manipulated pâte de verre, 2016
“nothing is clearly defined anymore …
we are in between waves and particles …
here and there pâte de verre can show in between time and space …
between static and fluent, between solid and fragile …
even between cultures …”
SAÏDA BAYOUCEFI
The artist Saïda Bayoucefi is from the Sahara desert, she did study at École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Algiers and was mostly working sculptural. When invited to Sweden to Konstfack in Stockholm in 2002 she fall in love with glass and did develop her skills there and also later at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm. For deeper understanding she did as well study light design at Royal Technical High School and besides that she is holding a master in design from Kalmar University Sweden.
Saïda – which means happy in Arabic – had exhibitions in Algeria, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, France and Portugal. Her work did bring her also to China and Finland. She had artist residencies at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn and in the Indian Ocean at École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de la Réunion; she loved to give her highly specialized skills in glass to art students. For her understanding art is the universal form of communication between cultures.
In Portugal, finishing her master studies of glass art and science at VICARTE – FCT (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia – Universidade Nova de Lisboa) now, Saïda met Pessoa and Einstein during her scientific research and developed a new technique with pâte de verre to express her message: “in between” – shown with “manipulated pâte de verre”.
